Shadows

We walk in shadows
with great anxiety
what is hidden in the dark?
what kind of terror is there?
we struggle to stay near the light
moon
stars
streetlamp
away from the lurking threat of the shadows
unknown wickedness
unrecognized danger
unholy threat of evil
hidden in the trepidation of shadow

We walk in shadows
with great relief
unpleasant heat from sun beating down
we seek comfort in the shadow
tree limbs
clouds
buildings. canopies, umbrellas
surrounded by light
cooled by shadows
a peaceful security around us

We walk in shadows
God says “Come,
walk in the shadow of my wings.”
“Don’t walk in the shadows of fear,
walk with joy in
the shadow of my wings.”
